What's the difference between mixing and mastering?
Mixing balances all the individual tracks in a song — vocals, drums, instruments — into one cohesive stereo file. Mastering then polishes that stereo file for release: final EQ, loudness, and consistency across playback systems. Mixing shapes the song; mastering preps it for the world.
How much does mixing and mastering cost?
Mixing at Gem en Eye starts at $100 per track, with mastering included in the standard service. Across the market, professional mixing and mastering runs anywhere from $150 to $1,000+ per song, so $100 is a working-artist rate for a producer-grade mix.
What's the turnaround time?
Most mixes are delivered within 5-7 days of receiving your files. Rush delivery is available on request — mention your deadline when you book.
How many revisions are included?
Two free revision rounds are included with every mix. After I deliver, you send timestamped notes and I make the changes. Extra revision rounds beyond the two are available for a small fee.
How do I send my files?
Export each track (stems) as separate WAV files from the very start of your session, all at the same sample rate you recorded at — then zip and upload them. For mastering-only, send your final stereo mix as a WAV with about 3-6 dB of headroom. Full instructions come with your booking confirmation.
Do you mix vocals recorded at home?
Yes — most of the vocals I mix were recorded in home studios. A clean home recording on a decent mic is plenty to work with. I handle noise cleanup, tuning, and vocal mixing as part of every project. If your recording has issues, I'll tell you before we start, not after.
Do you master songs you didn't mix?
Yes. Mastering-only service is available for tracks mixed elsewhere. Send your final stereo WAV and reference tracks, and you'll get back a streaming-ready master.
Is AI mastering good enough?
AI mastering is fast and cheap, but it can't make decisions — it applies a preset curve to whatever you feed it. A human mastering engineer hears intent: where the hook should lift, when the low end is a choice and not a mistake. Use AI for demos. Use a human for releases.
